Tom Hanks produced and starred in this adaptation of Dave Eggers’ novel by German director Tom Tykwer. The film quietly hit theatres in April and only took in $4.2-million at the box office, making it one of the lowest grossing Tom Hanks films of all-time. Critics were warm to it though giving it a 70% Rotten Tomato rating. The Blu-ray release features three featurettes: “The Making of A Hologram For The King”, “From Novel to Screen: The Adaptation of A Hologram For The King”, and “Perfecting The Culture”.

Demolition was the opening night film at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, but that never guarantees that a movie will do well in theatres. Poor reviews and an April release led to a box office performance of around $4-million worldwide. Vallée’s next projects are two series for HBO: Big Little Lies from David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal), and an adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s debut novel Sharp Objects starring Amy Adams.
