Police are calling the threats made that sent Niagara Catholic District School Board elementary schools into a hold and secure not credible following investigation.

Officers say they have determined that the threat was made from outside the country and that there is no reason to believe that there is an ongoing risk to the schools under the Board.

The Niagara Catholic District School Board lifted the hold and secure as of Tuesday following a threat made toward one of its schools Monday morning.

A NCDSB spokesperson says the board immediately notified police after they received the anonymous threat.

All elementary schools in the board were placed in a hold and secure.

“Secondary schools with lunch periods were placed in an increased state of security during that period and were placed in a hold and secure as quickly as possible,” said Jennifer Pellegrini, communications officers for the board.

She says students participating in off-site activities were directed to remain there.

Parents wanting to pick up their children from school were able to do so. Students who remained at school were dismissed at their usual time.

As police continue to investigate, they ask anyone with further information to contact detectives by calling (905) 688-4111, dial option 3, ext 1009318.
