Here comes summer!
It’s day one of what Environment Canada has predicted will be a warmer, dryer than average Summer.
The Summer solstice occurs when the Earth’s axial tilt is most inclined toward the Sun. That’s at 1:16pm locally, but what that means for most people in the Northern Hemisphere is that it is the longest day of the year.
With Summer comes reminders of safety out on the water. About 500 people drown in Canada each year and most victims are toddlers and men between 18 and 49, so OPP have a few tips to help keep kids safe in the water:
- -Make sure to stay within sight and reach at all times because a drowning can happen in seconds;
- -Put the kids in swimming lessons but also learn how to swim yourself;
- And if you’re out on a boat, make sure to wear a life jacket.
