Hector and the Search for Happiness

Hector and the Search for Happiness is a British romantic comedy film based on the book of the same name, and directed by Peter Chelsom (Serendipity). Hector is a successful psychiatrist who lives with his beautiful girlfriend Clara in London. You would think he’s a happy man, but he’s not; Hector is losing patience with his job and his relationship is stuck in neutral. Sensing that things need to change, Hector sets out on a global search for what happiness really is. He meets a host of characters in China, Africa, and the United States, but as his search continues Hector realizes that maybe true happiness doesn’t really exist. The film stars Simon Pegg, Toni Collette, Rosamund Pike, Stellan Skarsgård, and Christopher Plummer.
Director Peter Chelsom enjoys writing films he directs, so he was called upon to rewrite the screenplay to fit his vision. “It was a great story and very much a fable. It had something to say. I always try to create a world unto itself when I make a movie and I felt that I could do it with this. On every film, I try to tell a tale rather than a story, and if that tale can be a fable, it’s even more interesting.”
Hector and the Search for Happiness is rated 14A.
