Heat warnings are still in effect for much of Southern Ontario, including Hamilton, Halton, and Niagara.

The warnings are issued when forecast temperatures are expected to be at least 31°C and overnight temperatures are above 20°C for 2 days or the humidex is at least 40 for 2 days.

According to the independent electricity system operator, usage is expected to peak at 22 5000 megawatts, but that’s still 4 500 less than our peak in the summer of 2006.

In Hamilton, public swimming pools are free and extra cooling centres have been opened.
