Heat warning returns to the Hamilton, Halton, Niagara regions

A heat warning has been issued in regions throughout southwestern Ontario as Environment Canada has forecasted temperatures at or above 30 degrees expected to last through to Saturday.

Heat advisories have been issued in the Hamilton, Halton, Niagara and Brant regions with temperatures projected to near 40 degrees with the humidex during the day and hovering around 20 degrees overnight.

The City of Hamilton says cooling centres have opened and can be found online or identified by a “Cool Down Here” sign at the entrance. All outdoor and indoor City pool open swims will additionally be free of charge.

The latest stretch of hot and humid weather comes after a multi-day heat wave earlier this month contributed to what the World Meteorological Organization says was the hottest week globally on record.

Environment Canada says conditions could also bring deteriorating air quality.

Residents in these regions are advised to monitor for signs of heat exhaustion that include heavy sweating, weakness, cold, pale and clammy skin, weak pulse, fainting and vomiting. Anyone experiencing these symptoms is asked to contact 9-1-1 as needed.
