On the campaign trail, Conservative leader Stephen Harper was once again questioned about Syrian refugees, this time during a stop in Welland. And it prompted an outburst from a Tory supporter.

Harper repeated to the that his policy on Canada accepting more Syrian refugees hasn’t changed, because of security concerns for Canadians. When reporters asked Harper if he would consider taking in more refugees, a Harper supporter heckled the reporter. “How many kids drowned in the pools of Canada this past summer? Do you blame the government for that?”

After the outburst settled down, Harper addressed the reporter. “We already made announcements and we will continue to look at how we can improve , but yes we will make sure. We are talking about a terrorist war zone a lot of the people are coming from. We will make sure that we are also protecting Canadians from security risks and there is no contradiction. We will do both. We will help refugees. We will also protect Canadians on security and we are committed to doing both of these things.”

A recent Nanos public opinion poll attributes the Conservative party’s drop into third place behind the NDP and Liberals, to the party’s refusal to speed up the acceptance now of more Syrian refugees into Canada.
