A handheld personal massage device is being recalled in Canada because it has the potential to overheat while charging and cause burns.

Health Canada recommends consumers immediately stop using HoMedics Therapist Select Percussion Personal Massagers with model number HHP-715 or HHP-715-CA.

The massagers can overheat while charging, posing fire and burn hazards to users. One person in the United States even reported burning their thumb.

Since Dec. 21, 2023, the company has received four reports of overheating while charging in Canada, while 13 reports of overheating have been recorded in the U.S.

This recall only involves products manufactured through the end of 2022 and prior, with UPC code 0031262099662.

The manufacturing date is represented by a four-digit (WWYY) date code found on a sticker on the underside of the barrel of the product, where WW is the sequential week of the year and YY is the last two digits of the manufacturing year.

Only products with a YY of 21 and 22 are subject to this recall.

Approximately 41,000 units of the affected products were sold in Canada and roughly 46,000 units were sold in the United States.

Consumers should immediately stop using and charging the recalled massagers and contact HoMedics for instructions to receive a full refund.

Users could alternatively receive a refund in the form of a credit towards any HoMedics product including a 20 per cent bonus.
