Smokers have one year to “butt out” in some outdoor areas of Hamilton.
The city’s smoke-free outdoor recreation areas by-law takes effect May 31st, 2012.
It bans smoking on all city-owned or operated property used for recreation purposes.
Some of the areas include parks, playgrounds, sports or playing fields, beaches, outdoor pools and leash-free dog parks.
An information campaign will be launched over the next year.
Hamilton city council approved the by-law in March.
