The Canada men’s national basketball team kicked off their training camp this afternoon in Toronto ahead of the 2023 FIBA World Cup later this month.

Under new head coach Jordi Fernandez, Team Canada has put together what, on paper, looks like the most talented line up they’ve ever had and will turn to Hamilton’s very own, NBA All Star, Shai Gilgeous Alexander to help lead them to gold later this month.

“If you put your mind to it you can do it,” Alexander said.

“If you work hard enough, you can get it done, I think that was my mentality and approach all my life, and it’s paid off.”

When asked why this is so important to him, Alexander said he thinks the country and where he came from is part of the reason he’s the player he is today.

The team will be practicing in Toronto for the next few days before they head to Europe for five pre-tournament games in Germany and Spain.

The 2023 FIBA World Cup runs from August 25 to September 10th in Japan, Philippines, and Indonesia.
