Hamilton’s Aeon Bayfront Studios looks to expand with help from the city

Hamilton’s largest film and arts production facility is hoping to expand further and is looking to the city to sell some of its land.
The Aeon Bayfront Studios facility is all about bringing creativity to 243 Queen St. North.
With three buildings and one at 80 thousand square feet, the company near Hamilton’s West Harbour is where many TV shows and films are produced in the city.
Co-founder Jeff Anders says work has slowed down a little due to the actors’ strike in the U.S. but says a big project is scheduled for January.
Their business model relies entirely on the creative industry, with more than 250 artists working out of the facility.

Lester Coloma is one of the artists who rents space from Aeon Studios. About a dozen of his murals decorate buildings around Hamilton.
“It’s nice to have a space like this just to be in a community. I used to work alone at the other space that I had and there were no other artists around so here you can open the door and have a chit chat with someone working on something else.” says Coloma.
The owners are hoping to generate public support for future facilities they are looking to build on land that is currently owned by the city.
The plot is found on Barton Street and Tiffany Street, adjacent to the West Harbour GO Train Station.
“A report is coming to council this month where staff will be detailing councillors on what is in the consortium’s proposal and council will be making a vote on whether to proceed with our proposal and we hope that they support it.” says Anders.
