Hamilton woman suffered ‘multiple fractures’ in violent crash

A Hamilton woman is recovering in hospital after her vehicle was split in half during a violent crash in Brantford.

Stevie Giglia, 20, was on her way home from school at Wilfred Laurier University when the collision happened around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say her vehicle was travelling eastbound on Highway 403 between Garden Ave. and Wayne Gretzky Parkway when it crossed over the centre line, struck the guardrail and went airborne into a transport truck that was travelling in the opposite direction.

The impact of the crash severed the vehicle in half and ejected Giglia. She was found roughly 10 metres away in a nearby ditch.

On Thursday, the woman’s sister told CHCH News she suffered multiple broken bones and had undergone surgery.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds for any needs Giglia’s family may encounter during her recovery.

The page describes the young woman as “a caring, loving and very sweet soul” who is “one of a kind.”

The campaign had already raised $3,910 Friday morning, surpassing its $3,000 goal.

Ontario Provincial Police say they are continuing to investigate the collision and anyone with information is asked to contact police.
