The City of Hamilton is under a freezing rain warning, with Environment Canada saying a prolonged period of freezing rain is likely.

Precipitation is expected to begin as snow or ice pellets late Friday afternoon, before changing over to freezing rain by early evening and then snow overnight.

The weather agency says roads and sidewalks could become icy and slippery and ice build-up could cause issues with trees and branches.

It’s also warning about potential utility outages.

This storm is associated with a low pressure system moving north from Texas, which is expected to track near the south shore of Lake Erie Friday night.
