Hamilton to see decrease in child-care spaces over next two years

Hamilton will see a decrease in its child-care spaces due to a cut in funding from the Ministry of Education.

On March 31, the ministry announced its plan to recalibrate their child-care spaces across the province, Hamilton being one of the locations impacted by the changes.

The reduction in funding means there will be a decrease of 289 child-care spaces for 2025 and 2026.

Out of the total 47 Service System Managers across the province, 27 of the spaces were reduced, while four saw no changes to their space allocations.

This comes after the city requested additional child-care spaces in order to meet demand.
