Hamilton to resume Chedoke Creek dredging work

The City of Hamilton says targeted dredging work at Chedoke Creek is scheduled to resume.

Preparatory works will begin Sept. 21 and in-water dredging is set to begin four to five days later.

The City says the work is expected to be complete by Dec. 31 or sooner.

The arrival and set up of the dredge machine began Aug. 17, but work was paused when community members arrived on the worksite Aug. 18.

Staff will begin negotiations with First Nations stakeholders who have been a part of the consultation efforts in regards to environmental monitoring agreements during the dredging process.

The City says it has taken steps to protect wildlife and species at risk in Chedoke Creek and Cootes Paradise.

In-water work is expected to take place seven days a week between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Excess noise, dust or smells are not expected.
