Hamilton to begin reconstruction of Mountain Park Avenue on Monday

The City of Hamilton will close Mountain Park Avenue between Upper Wentworth St. and Poplar Ave. on Monday for reconstruction.
The reconstruction is expected to finish by October 2023, if the weather is good enough to allow it.
Some of the work to the park includes transportation improvements, tree planting, road resurfacing, reconfiguration of parking lots for additional parking space and more.
The project intends to improve safe and efficient movement of pedestrians and cyclists.

The city says the Mountain Park Avenue, including the Upper Wentworth escarpment staircase, will remain closed for the duration of the project. Parking lots within the construction area will also be closed for the duration of the project.
Local access through the work zone will be maintained.
The project was endorsed by the city council in July 2022. The complete streets design manual provides a set of guidelines and tools to inform the design, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of Hamilton roadways.
