New photos released by Hamilton Police show the 2 men involved in a weekend shootout just a few blocks east of Hamilton’s downtown core. It was the second shooting in just 2 days and Hamilton Police are now on the hunt for the gunmen in both incidents.
The images show 2 men, guns drawn, firing at each other on the corner of Main Street East and East Avenue. Police have no other information on the shooters. It happened just after 6 in the evening and police say they are very concerned about where and when this incident took place.
“The fact that this took place in the daytime where many citizens could have been out playing with children and families is definitely a concern to the police service.”
Flying bullets broke through the glass at Marz Paints and the side of the building. A bullet also went through both back windows of a car parked in the parking lot. Across the street police also found a bullet hole in the front window of a dental office. Police were in the area today canvassing for more information. They also closed 3 lanes of Main Street for about half an hour, stopping cars and questioning drivers, they say it’s part of a strategy to increase their presence in the area.
This was the second shooting in this areas in 24 hours. Just a few blocks away at the corner of King and Ashley gunfire broke out around 3 am Sunday. One shot pierced the window of the Homestead Bar and Grill on King Street East. The manager says at least 5 shell casings were found. Police are looking into any links between the 2 shootings. No one was injured in either incident.
Police know there are other people out there who know something and are afraid to come forward. They are asking anyone with info to call Crime Stoppers.
