Hamilton residents lobbying for new ward boundaries

A group of citizens called “Equal Wards Now” began a petition to collect at least 500 elector signatures to push City Council to redraw ward boundaries for equal representation at city council.

The city has already considered the move after purchasing consultation from a third party that provided two options. The city could redraw it’s 15 wards in accordance to population changes or add another ward in Hamilton Mountain with the addition of another city councillor. The city has declined both options in favour of redrawing the boundaries to their satisfaction.

“Equal Wards Now” wants the city to accept the consultant’s recommendations for redrawing the boundaries.

The process of redrawing ward boundaries is also six years overdue.
