Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board released their new reopening schedule and has changed the start date of classes for students.

Students will now begin the new school year on Sept. 10 instead of Sept. 8.

A change was made in order to give students the ability to get familiar with schools’ and their reopening processes during COVID-19, according to the HWDSB.

The plan released for elementary schools in the school board says students with special needs and junior kindergarten will be starting Sept. 10.

Going in to the following week, Group A will attend school on Sept. 14 while Group B will attend Sept. 15, with the intention of only having 1/2 of the students come in.

Students with the last names starting with A to K will be put into Group A, and those with last names starting with L to Z will be in Group B.

All students will then officially be able to return back to school for full classes on Sept. 16.

For high schools, all students will be in a remote learning orientation on Sept. 10 and Sept. 11 before online classes begin on Monday Sept. 14.

Grade 9 and 10 students in Cohort A will begin classes on Sept. 14, and those in Cohort B will begin on the following day.

A rotating schedule will continue throughout the rest of the semester for these high school students.

HWDSB will  havE a board meeting on Monday for more information about reopening schools.
