Hamilton police welcome their newest member of the K-9 Unit

Hamilton police welcomed their newest member of the K-9 Unit on Wednesday. Police service dog ‘Gage’ has become the 51st dog to join the K-9 Unit since it was founded in 1960. The service says Constable Stone and ‘Gage’ will spend the next several years together as partners.
As Gage was sworn in, another service dog was honoured with his retirement today. “Armour” has been with Hamilton police for nine years and is cross-trained in human scent as well as explosives detection. He attended more than 22 hundred calls with his handler Constable Vince Kikas.
Currently, Hamilton’s K-9 Unit is comprised of four officers and their assigned police service dogs. They are often used in serious calls such as robberies, reports of a weapon, drug calls, and ground searches.
