Miscommunication prompts warning about telephone scam

A miscommunication prompted a false warning about a telephone scam involving Crime Stoppers.

According to police, an elderly woman reported receiving a call from someone asking for donations for Crime Stoppers.

That prompted police to send out a message, warning about a scam.

It turns out there was a miscommunication.

Crime Stoppers says it was not aware that a marketing company it used to run various events was calling people to sell tickets to an upcoming benefits show.

Police say it doesn’t appear the phone call to the woman was a scam but rather someone trying to sell tickets to that show.
