Hamilton Police show support for LGBT community

Tomorrow is the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.
Hamilton Police showed their support today at an event in front of Central Station.
The force says it is dedicated to enhancing their community partnerships and embracing diversity, culture and inclusivity.
Constable Brian Mitchel says police services have come a long way.
When I was younger, there was no such thing as the positive spaces in a lot of our work places. A lot of police services weren’t moving in the direction that we’re all moving in now,” said Mitchel. “But with the advancement of LGBTQ rights and all that’s happening, and the International Day Against Homophobia, it’s leaps and bounds from where we were.”
The day is also being recognized by major international institutions including the United Nations, the European Union and the World Bank.
