Hamilton police seize drugs, cash after driver cuts off police cruiser

Two men from Hamilton are expected to appear in court Thursday after police seized illegal drugs and cash during a traffic stop.
Shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, a Hamilton police officer was out on patrol near the intersection of Cannon St. and Edgemont St.
A grey Jeep Cherokee was stopped in the area but then suddenly pulled forward and cut off the police cruiser.
The officer pulled the Jeep over near Campbell Ave. and Province St. North and discovered the driver’s licence was suspended several years ago.
The driver was arrested and the vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
Police continued to investigate and found evidence of drug trafficking inside the vehicle. Police seized nearly $10,000 worth of drugs including cocaine, purple fentanyl, white fentanyl powder, heroin, oxycodone pills, hydromorphone pills, marijuana and an undisclosed amount of cash. The passenger was then also arrested.
A 43-year-old man and a 62-year-old man are facing several charges. They are being held in custody pending a bail hearing at John Sopinka Courthouse on Thursday.
