Hamilton police seek man in 2nd assault at J.C. Beemer Park in 3 days

Hamilton police are searching for a man following a serious assault at J.C. Beemer Park on Sunday afternoon, the second assault at the park within three days.
Officers say the latest incident happened around 4:45 p.m. at an encampment in the park located at 68 Victoria Ave. North.
Investigators say a female was attacked and slashed with an edged weapon.
The suspect is described as a white man believed to be in his late 20s. Police say he was last seen wearing a “distinctive” salmon-coloured tank top and shorts.

Sunday’s assault came three days after a 45-year-old man was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition following a physical altercation around 9:30 a.m. Thursday at J.C. Beemer Park.
Police said Antonio Beltrano of Hamilton died of his injuries on Monday.
Within an hour of the incident, investigators found the suspect and arrested him in the area of King St. East and Emerald St. South.

Craig Brooks, 37, was arrested in the area of King St. East and Emerald St. South on Thursday.
The Hamilton man was initially charged with aggravated assault, which was then upgraded to second-degree murder following the death of Beltrano.
Investigators have confirmed that Brooks and Beltrano were not residents of the encampment at the park.
