Propane tank the cause for loud explosion in Hamilton

Hamilton police say an accident at Triple M Metal in the city’s north end is to blame for the loud explosion sound that was reportedly heard across the city and into Burlington.
According to the police, the workers at Triple M Metal, an industrial scrap yard, accidentally destroyed a propane cylinder that detonated, causing damage to equipment.
No injuries were reported, and nothing criminal happened but residents in the east end say the explosion last night was shocking.
Dozens of Hamiltonians posted online about the ground shaking and a loud booming noise around 7 p.m. Friday.
“We were watching TV having supper then we heard the big explosion so loud the noise it was unbelievable,” said a local resident.
“I was actually working in my backyard and I heard that it was huge and I was scared i never heard anything like that.”
Hamilton Police have fielded numerous calls about a loud explosion in #HamOnt earlier this evening.

It is still unclear where the explosion happened as Triple M Metal has a few locations in the east end.
Triple M Metal was fined $250,000 by the Ministry of Environment for five charges related to shredder explosions in the city.
The charges date back to May of 2020 and stem from:
-Using or building anything that could release pollutants into the environment without ministry approval.
-Twice failing to report to the ministry of an explosion in a shredder.
-Twice failing to prevent processing prohibited materials in a shredder unless all explosive substances were removed.
CHCH reached out to Triple M Metal for comment and hasn’t heard back.
