A long-time Hamilton police officer has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a fellow officer, who he has known since she was 13 years old.

Const. Michael LaCombe has been suspended with pay since the charges were filed two years ago by the Special Investigations Unit.

The reasoning behind the verdict was not released Thursday.

LaCombe is expected to be sentenced at a later date. A disciplinary process under the Police Services Act will also be held later.

LaCombe confessed to lying to SIU investigators 17 times under oath.

His lawyer, Dean Paquette, told CHCH News that they’re in the process of determining a suitable sentencing date, which is a challenge because the judge lives in St. Catharines and sentencing in Hamilton is preferred.
