Hamilton police lay 497 speeding charges over July long weekend

Hamilton police handed out hundreds of speeding tickets this past July long weekend.
Officers were stationed at 57 RIDE locations throughout the city and were focused on impaired driving and speeding.
In total, police pulled over 2,156 vehicles and laid 497 speeding offences.
Hamilton police say the long weekend enforcement, which ran from July 1 to 5, also included:
- 4 collision where alcohol or drugs were a factor
- 8 arrests made for impaired offences
- 5 charged for impaired by alcohol
- 1 charged for impaired by drug
- 7 charged for testing 80 and above on a breath test
