Hamilton police have made an arrest in the city’s first homicide of the year, shortly after identifying the victim as 40-year-old Melvin Jn’Marie from Hamilton.

Officials said they’ve arrested 30-year-old Antonio Sedeno Charles from Brampton. Charles is currently charged with second degree murder.

Charles will appear at John Sopkina Courthouse on Monday morning.

Police said Jn’Marie was found with life-threatening injuries in an alleyway parallel to Parkdale Avenue North between Britannia Avenue and Melvin Avenue. Neighbours who found him performed CPR until paramedics arrived. Jn’Marie later died at Hamilton General Hospital.

Police were called to 216 Parkdale Ave. North in the city’s east-end around 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon for a disturbance.

They have not released any details about a suspect. However, investigators have concluded that the suspect and victim were known to each other and there is no immediate danger to public safety.

If you have any information, call police.
