Hamilton police responded to a total of five break-ins overnight. Of the five, two turned out to be something more serious.

Police say that two men forced their way into a home on Selkirk Road at around 10:30pm Monday night. The owner of the home was assaulted and suffered a non-life threatening injury. Police say this may have been a robbery attempt but they are still working on determining the motive. The incident is believed to be targeted.

The two men are both described as white and about 6 feet tall. They both had their faces covered at the time and were last seen in dark clothing.  It’s believed they took off in a dark coloured sedan.

In Dundas, one person was arrested following a fire at a church that was broken into. It happened at the New Apostolic Church on Hatt Street at around 3:00am. Damage has been estimated at $10,000. The Ontario Fire Marshal is now involved in the investigation.

Police say the other break-ins happened on Shelby Avenue, Barton Street East and Rymal Road East.
