Hamilton police are investigating after a white powdery substance was found in a resident’s mailbox.

Officers were called to “suspicious circumstances” at a home on Kirkwall Ave. in Flamborough around 1:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators learned a resident was checking their mailbox when they discovered an envelope. As they walked the envelope back to their home, a white powdery substance proceeded to fall out.

Police say three people at the home handled the envelope and suffered “some form of irritation.”

They were assessed at the scene and were not taken to hospital.

Police say there is no further concern for public safety.

The Hamilton Police Division 3 Criminal Investigation Branch has taken over the investigation.
