Hamilton Police say speed and alcohol were factors in a fatal crash in the city’s east end.

Police, fire and paramedics responded to a multi-vehicle collision on Queenston Rd. and Delena Ave. around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Witnesses described two vehicles racing westbound on Queentson rd.

One was a silver Mercedes C350, the other is described as a white four-door sedan.

The driver of the Mercedes struck a Toyota Yaris as it exited a private driveway.

The impact caused the Mercedes to veer into oncoming traffic and hit a 2010 Ford Escape.

Police say the 25-year-old woman driving the Yaris was unresponsive at the scene and was taken to hospital where she died of her injuries.

A 37-year-old man driving a Ford Escape was treated in hospital and released.

Police have charged 35-year-old Warren Lewis of Hamilton with dangerous driving causing death and fail to comply with probation.

He was treated in hospital for minor injuries.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnesses the crash and hasn’t spoken to investigators to call 905-546-4753.
