Hamilton police are investigating an area of James St. South after someone was found with gunshot wounds early Monday morning.

Investigators say at around 2 a.m. a male victim was found with gunshot wounds before being transported to hospital where he is expected to survive.

Officers told CHCH news that they are holding the scene of the shooting as they investigate the City of Hamilton’s first shooting of the year.

Detectives say the shooting took place at an apartment building on the corner of Hughson and Young Streets off of James St. South.

Police have not said if a weapon was retrieved but they have said only one male victim was injured.
