Hamilton police have released the identity of the 39-year-old man who was fatally shot and then left on the roadway in the city’s Stinson neighbourhood on Sunday evening.

Police say Shane Grenier, of Hamilton, is the victim of the city’s first homicide of 2022.

Grenier was found lying on the road near Tisdale St. South and Erie Ave. around 6 p.m.

Hamilton police say he was “dumped” out of a vehicle in the area in medical distress.

Police say Grenier suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to hospital where he later died.

“Shane’s family are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of their family member,” said Hamilton police in a news release. “In the wake of this crime, Shane’s family have requested privacy to grieve their loss.”

Investigators continue to search for a four-door, black BMW sedan with silver rims that was seen leaving the area before Grenier was discovered on the ground.

Police have not released any suspect descriptions at this time.
