A woman who was struck by a vehicle in downtown Hamilton on Wednesday remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

An SUV travelling westbound on Cannon St. and pick-up truck travelling southbound on James St. N collided at the intersection just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

The truck ended up mounting the curb, hitting a pedestrian on the sidewalk who was waiting to cross. It then hit another vehicle just south of the intersection.

The driver of the SUV, a 56-year-old Hamilton man, and the driver of the pickup truck, a 34-year-old Niagara Falls woman, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The pedestrian is a 34-year-old woman from Smithville. Police say she is in stable condition in hospital but her injuries are life-threatening.

Police say they have ruled out driver impairment and are investigating other factors, including which vehicle had the right of way.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-546-4753.
