Hamilton Police cleared in stabber arrest injury

Ontario’s SIU says there are no grounds to charge any Hamilton Police officers, after a man was injured in a stand-off.
On March 8, 2014, police responded to a call about a multiple stabbing at a Hamilton apartment building, where they pursued Kevin Richards, 27, along Melvin Ave. They tasered and shot him with rubber bullets, but he didn’t give up his knife.
He eventually fell from a ledge and fractured his spine and ankle, before being disarmed by police. The SIU’s director says the officers had every reason to believe Richards was a real and present danger and their actions did not constitute excessive force.
Richards injured 5 people in the building. He was eventually found not criminally responsible for the acts.
