Hamilton police ask for help finding detainee released by mistake

Hamilton police are asking for help finding a man who was mistakenly released from a Hamilton detention centre last Friday.

Officers say they discovered Monday that 35-year-old Matthew Jordan O’Keefe was released from the Hamilton Wentworth Detention Centre in error.

O’Keefe was scheduled to appear in a Hamilton courthouse Tuesday but he failed to appear.

The man was originally arrested Aug. 10 by police while in a motor vehicle in the area of King Street East and Quigley Road after he was allegedly found in possession of property obtained by crime, and an unauthorized possession of a firearm.

O’Keefe also has 12 outstanding warrants from Toronto Police Services.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact police.
