Hamilton police arrested a man Sunday following the death of Charles “Jacques” Jouvence at his home on Hunter Street East last week.

Officers attended a home in the area of Hunter Street East and Spring Street around 3:45 p.m. March 16, where they found 74-year-old Jouvence on the porch of his home, suffering from a stab wound.

Jouvence had died from his injuries in hospital and a homicide unit was called to continue the investigation.

Investigators arrested 30-year-old David Gomez-Rodriguez with no fixed address Sunday and have charged him with second-degree murder.

Const. Trevor McKenna from Hamilton Police Services confirmed with CHCH News that Gomez-Rodriguez was arrested in Hamilton.

Detectives say that Jouvence and Gomez-Rodriguez did not know each other.

Gomez-Rodriguez is scheduled to appear at a Hamilton courthouse Tuesday.

Ontario’s top police watchdog is also investigating, after Hamilton police reported one officer had fired their gun during an interaction at the home.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
