Hamilton police arrest former Mohawk College camp counsellor on sexual assault charges

Hamilton police say they have arrested a 24-year-old man after an investigation into reports of sexual assault.
In early July 2022, police entered into an investigation after a victim came forward to report an incident of sexual assault from 2017.
Police say the victim was a minor and a camper at the camp the year of the incident.
On Thursday, August 11, Chevaughn “Chevy” Adamson of Burlington was arrested and charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.
Police say at the time of the assault, Chevaughn Adamson was a summer Camp Counsellor at Mohawk College. He has not worked as a camp counsellor at Mohawk College since the summer that the incidents occurred.
Investigators say they believe there may be more victims and are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
Mohawk College released a statement. It says in-part:
“The care of our campers and everyone in our Mohawk College community is our highest priority. This is upsetting news because we take our responsibility for caring for our community seriously. Mohawk College follows sector safety practices throughout each day at camp. Counsellors are screened before hiring, including a police vulnerable sector check, and undergo four days of specific camp training. Mohawk College also has policies in place to respond to all reports of misconduct or assault.”
The college has also confirmed the person charged is the son of Mohawk’s VP Academic, Cebert Adamson.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
