A Hamilton fashion photographer’s work focusing on Cystic Fibrosis is garnering international attention.
The collection titled Salty Girls looks at more than 50 adult women living with the genetic disease. Ian Pettigrew hopes the photos portray the toll the condition can take on the body and that it will speak to children and teens diagnosed with CF.
He says within the last five days the collection has garnered attention in Poland, Israel, Italy and the UK. Pettigrew is currently working on putting the collection into a book.
He told CHCH News what sparked his inspiration for the photography project. “It started with his first book which was about adults living with that, and then it morphed along the way more and more women wanted to talk about their own issues so just as a running joke, it was just like ‘there’s an awful lot of hot women that have CF’ and then it just kind of morphed from there.”
“We still have a long way to go thats what this book is trying to get out, we need a lot of awareness, a lot of research, a lot of money still to help these girls.”
Pettigrew added there will be a second volume to the book. He plans to travel across Canada and the world to raise awareness for the cause.
