Hamilton parking rates

[projekktor id=’23202′]
New plans for how much you’ll pay to park at city owned lots in Hamilton were released today. After quite a long meeting, a large chunk of which was devoted to parking, in a unanimous vote councillors have approved a $10 increase per month in municipal parking lots.
To be clear, the increase is only on city lots, not private ones. So far no increase has been set on the city’s street parking spots, which right now, are at $1-per-hour metered rates and are among the lowest in all of Ontario. Some areas have gotten a break, council decided they will exempt Hamilton’s Concession street from the increase and are looking to possibly exempt Dundas, Ottawa street and Kenilworth avenue as well.
Among other reasons councillors say they approved the increase is to generate more revenue for the city and to create a faster turnover for how long cars will hold on to the same spot. Council has deferred the issue until Friday so they can get more detailed information on the areas that have been put up to be exempt. We don’t know exactly when the parking rate hikes to public lots will come into effect but it can only be officially enforced once the 2016 budget is ratified.
