Hamilton overnight fire sends 2 to hospital

Two women were treated in hospital for smoke inhalation after an overnight fire that gutted an apartment in west Hamilton.
It’s believed one of the women used an oxygen tank to help her breathe, but it’s not known if the tank was involved in the blaze, which broke out around 3 am. Residents living in the building at 57 Mericourt Road building were evacuated until the fire and smoke in the first floor unit were cleared.
Damage was confined to one apartment. Investigators from the Ontario Fire Marshall’s office are expected on the scene this morning.
