Hamilton commemorated the War of 1812 today.

Mayor Bob Bratina was joined by dozens at Stoney Creek’s Battlefield House museum for the event. This year marks the bicentennial of the Battle of Stoney Creek, which took place during the War of 1812.

It was 200 years ago that British soldiers fought and won a gun battle with American forces, who had stationed themselves at the spot where the museum now stands. Today young and old marched in commemoration of the battle, which Bratina calls an important moment in Canada’s history.

A re-enactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek will take place on June 1st and 2nd.
