Hamilton man dies after collapsing at Road2Hope marathon

One of Hamilton’s biggest and usually most joyful sporting events was marred Sunday morning as tragedy struck the Road2Hope marathon.
At around 10am a 56-year-old man collapsed while participating in the marathon.
Medical staff spent nearly 30 minutes trying to revive the stricken competitor at the scene.
Police say the Hamilton man was an avid runner and well known in the running community.
The man was rushed to hospital, but died shortly after his collapse.
Police say they will not be investigating.
They say the death was the result of a medical issue and is not suspicious in any way.
The seven-year-old event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charities both in Haiti and in Hamilton.
