Hamilton man charged in violent sexual assault of woman in North End

Hamilton police have arrested and charged a 24-year-old man in connection with a violent sexual assault of a woman earlier this week.

It happened early in the morning on Monday near the intersection of Barton St. East and Emerald Ave in the North End.

Officers said the man beat and sexually assaulted a 46-year-old woman.

On Thursday, police said the woman is still in critical condition and unconscious.

Investigators arrested the 24-year-old Hamilton man around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

The man has been charged with aggravated sexual assault and was scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
