Hamilton man attempts to steal police officer’s gun

A 31-year-old Hamilton man is facing charges after he tried to bite a police officer and steal the officer’s gun.

It happened on Saturday shortly after 10 a.m. on James St. South.

Police responded to reports of a man who required medical attention but was being disorderly towards paramedics.

Police believed the man was drunk and as they were escorting him to an ambulance, the man became assaultive and began reaching for the office’s gun.

After a brief struggle, the man was handcuffed and arrested. While in police custody, he continued to try and bite officers.

Eugene Wemigwans, 31, is charged with disarming peace officer, assault peace officer and fail to comply probation.
