Hamilton man, 22, accused of uttering threats, extortion and child pornography

A Hamilton man is facing a slew of charges after a lengthy sexual extortion investigation by Halton police in Oakville.

Back in December 2019, investigators learned an “anonymous” person had contacted a female youth over social media and threatened to post graphic images of the girl if she did not provide sexually explicit images of herself.

The girl refused and the person posted the graphic images online.

The victim was contacted again earlier this month by the person, who then made the same demands. Police say the victim again refused to provide any images.

Following an extensive investigation, police arrested a 22-year-old Hamilton man on Thursday.

He has been charged with criminal harassment, extortion, publication of intimate images without consent, distribution of child pornography, possession of child pornography, and utter threats.

The man’s identity is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.

He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police are reminding residents who may be faced with similar extortion threats to contact police immediately.
