Hamilton man, 20, charged in Sunday crash that killed 2, injured 2

Hamilton police have arrested and charged a 20-year-old man in connection with a multi-vehicle collision that killed two male passengers and injured two others late Sunday night.

The Special Investigations Unit says there was an “interaction” between a Hamilton police officer and a man driving erratically on John St. near Forest Ave. shortly before 11 p.m.

The SIU says the man in the vehicle fled northbound on John St., striking and killing two male passengers in another vehicle travelling westbound on Young St. The driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police have identified the two deceased as a 38-year-old Hamilton man and a 57-year-old Toronto man.

The 20-year-old Hamilton man driving the vehicle that fled from the police was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Investigators have arrested and charged Mouhamad Al Jalmoud with impaired operation causing death.

Hamilton Police Service Const. Indy Bharaj says four vehicles were involved in the crash, including an empty parked car and a forensic services van. He says a Jeep smashed into the parked car.

A portion of John St. South was closed as the Special Investigations Unit investigated and crews cleaned up the debris, but it has since reopened.
