Hamilton makes $5M on red light cameras

The city of Hamilton collected $5 million in red light camera charges last year.
The city’s annual legal report shows more than 15,000 tickets were handed out in 2013 compared to roughly 10,000 two years ago. Last year’s numbers are more than double those of 2009.
The fee if caught speeding through a red light is $325.
The city’s lawyer says the jump in numbers is because more cameras have been installed. Hamilton has 12 cameras on the streets now, and plans to expand the program.
