Hamilton launches free Wi-Fi in Gage Park

Free public Wi-Fi is now available in Hamilton’s Gage Park.

The city’s Wi-Fi signal will appear as “Hamilton_Guest” and will allow visitors using a Wi-Fi enabled device such as a laptop, tablet PC or smart phone to access the internet free of charge.

“Offering public Wi-Fi is a tremendous opportunity to close the digital divide and provide free wireless internet access for all residents. This is the first step in building a city that keeps up with the digital demands of the 21st century. Who knows, maybe the world’s next great computer programmer could be sitting beside you in Gage Park,” said Councillor Matthew Green in a press release.

The Wi-Fi will be available daily between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. in the following areas:

• George R. Robinson Bandshell and surrounding area
• Horticulture building and surrounding area
• Water fountain and surrounding area
• Pump track and surrounding area
• Children’s museum indoors and surrounding area
• Splash pad and surrounding area

Residents will be required to accept the “Terms of Use of the Wireless Network and Disclaimer” when accessing the signal.

There is currently free Wi-Fi access in more than 40 City of Hamilton facilities including all 22 branches of the Hamilton Public Library.
