Hamilton home blocking neighbour’s driveway demolished

A home on Weir Street North that’s been sitting vacant for almost a year has been demolished.
The home came down Monday after construction equipment was dropped off at the start of January.
A construction worker told neighbours at the time that the house just needed to be hosed down before the demolition could start, to keep down any potential asbestos dust during the removal.
Heavy equipment, rubble and a fence around property are all that remain at the scene.
The home was condemned in February 2022 after a frozen pipe burst and the onslaught of water jeopardized its foundation.
A concerned neighbour noticed the corners of the house starting to sag and notified the city.

The city responded by surrounding the home with fences, worried it might collapse.
The fences, however, were encroaching on the adjacent property — preventing Katy Belaire from using her own driveway.
“This is a mess, since February this fence has been put on my property without my permission,” Belaire told CHCH News last year.
She added that she was tired of playing the waiting game and that she just wanted the city to come tear the house down so she can get her driveway back.
It only took ten months, but the end is in sight for Belaire and her driveway fiasco.
